Brought on to lead the transition to and subsequent management of a new cutting-edge electronic prepress department within Offset Pre-Press, Inc. Drove the integration of electronic documents, drum scanning, trapping, imposition, and digital photography into a coherent and efficient management system. Following successful department startup, responsibilities included standardizing file formats and workflow processes to prevent bottlenecks and boost productivity. Led the installation and monitoring of internet/intranet communications platforms, including web hosting, FRP Access, and email servers.
Retained as a consultant to train Master-Graphic personnel on Scitex PSM and Dolev Imagesetter, Quark, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Freehand, and Photoshop. Other training topics included preflight strategy, proper use trapping, and output procedures. Traveled to trade shows and other industry events to stay up-to-date with the latest digital printing technologies.
Created a brand new electronic prepress division with Macintosh and PC capabilities and implemented new production strategies during leadership tenure with Reproductions, Inc.'s Imaging Division. Trained existing employees and supervised staff in the production of prepress mediums for all major graphic layout programs.
Took over family-owned graphic arts design studio catering primarily to government agencies and small businesses, including the National Institute of Health, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Energy. Managed the activities of 25+ staff working in a variety of customer service, photography, typesetting, and graphic arts functions. Presented company information at trade shows and supervised marketing, sales, and business development activities to ensure long-term viability.
Recruited to establish and manage the day-to-day operations of the Association's preflight design, production, prepress, and advertising functions supporting the weekly publication of the Science family of journals (140K+) and web periodicals. Manage daily operations of 50+ cross-functional resources while developing new managers and functional experts to promote preflight autonomy and adaptability. Coordinate with IT during the planning, development, and implementation of new business solutions that build efficiency, productivity, and quality across business and editorial systems. Set and execute $300K in annual operating budgets while directly supporting contract negotiations, capital investments, and HR functions. Participate as a subject matter expert and visionary on the Digital Publishing Platform Core Team, working with a skilled team of colleagues to transform the lifecycle of publishing from print centric to a cross-medium article focus.
